Hat Chandelier

Crowns

McCarter Theatre’s 2018 production of Crowns designed by Caite Hevner called for a large chandelier hanging under the proscenium that was made of numerous hats. I constructed a large steel frame in 2 parts that was then covered in plywood. Pipes sticking though the plywood could have their height changed using shaft collars that were welded to brackets. Lighting was supplied by a number of inexpensive “DJ” quality LED fixtures that were modified to hold the hats at correct distance. With assistance from McCarter’s electric department.
