Lindbergh Chair
Take Flight
This steel chair was built for McCarter Theatre’s production of Take Flight, designed by David Farley. Part of the challenge of building this was that the only solid measurements I had to work with was the model piece and the size of the actor’s body. I was able to scale the set model to a 3D drawing, which let me start with a wood rehearsal chair to get the proportions correct. After that, I was able to start working with steel, while keeping in mind that a safety harness had to be fitted to the final product. The “cage” around the chair itself was built by McCarter scene shop staff.
